- 这是我们在陕西省富平县资助的北陵小学.
这样漂亮的学校是这里乡亲们自己集资建立起来的,
现在还欠施工队的四十万元呢.
从我刚到这里的印象感觉这里并不穷,
但进行一定了解后,
知道这里是个特殊的地方.

- For years, stone mining has been
Fuping’s main economic resource.
Processed into construction materials and sold at nearby City of
Xi’an, the stones made a number of families prosperous. Unfortunately, lack of proper safety
measures resulted in frequent mining accidents each year. The death toll
of Beilin, a small village, now approaches 100. The accidents left behind families of
single mothers, invalids, and orphans.
Most of OCEF-sponsored students in Fuping come from such
families.

- 我家住陕西省渭南市富平县流曲镇臧村三社.
家中原有爷爷,奶奶,爸爸,妈妈,二叔,妹妹,弟弟和我.
1994年到1995年爸爸,二叔相继患了重病.因给他们治病,
家庭欠下了许多外债,
至今还未还清. 一家八口的生活,
只能由母亲操持. 由于家中的劳力减少,
致使田地连年减产, 家人食不果腹.
2001年，爸爸因病去世了,
2004年元旦,二叔又离开了人世,
使本已非常窘迫的家庭霜上加雪,
生活越来越困苦, 常常揭不开锅.
由于生活所迫, 1999年到2003年,
奶奶走上了乞讨的生活.
奶奶曾对我说: “我宁可自己一人受苦，也不让你们挨饿.”
由于生活压力,
奶奶患上了动脉硬化.
家中生活少盐没油,
只好将奶奶送到姑姑家.

- In 1996, Yang’s grandfather
borrowed 100 RMB (less than $15) to pay for Yang’s tuition. Motivated by his family’s struggle to
put him through school, Yang worked hard to achieve academic excellence. Yang’s outstanding performance has
brought him many awards (posted on the wall in the picture). His school has granted him full
tuition waiver since 1998. Now a
student in a top local middle school, Yang also gets textbooks and
school supplies for free. Yang fully appreciates the help he has
received and tries his best both in school and at home. His only wish is that his siblings get
similar helps.
