- 平江是一个新资助点。
- 本次回乡,由我哥开着摩托带我跑了若干家庭及学校,调查了三天。这些学生相当分散,有的一个学校只资助了一名学生。那些住得太偏僻太远的地方我没法去。被调查的学生占总人数的1/3。
- 总体情况看,这些家庭的经济条件确实比较差,没有外界的帮助要把书念下来很不容易。但也有极个别家庭由亲戚朋友完全可以照顾。
- 被调查的学生中有很多学习非常优秀。还有些学生则很茫然。
- 当地总体教学水平很低。师资力量亟待提高。
- 义工提供的名单中,有若干名学生的家庭住在城关镇(名单来自居委会)。我采访了几个家庭。这些家庭的家长有些是城里的老工人(如搬煤,跑车)
。据反映,在城市的贫富分化中,有些城市家庭的生活远不如农村。因为农村至少还有地糊口。
- 但是另一方面,在城市的这些家庭绝大多数都有电视机(或许是二手货)
,并且住(或可曰挤)的是公家的低价租房(几百块钱一年)
。要不失偏颇得去对待这些学生,不是件容易的事。

- In general, the situations of most of the students supported are really
difficult. In fact, without outside supports, they may have to give up
studying very soon. In contrast, several students supported by OCEF can
be totally taken care of by their relatives.
- The general local education level is very low, and the qualified
teachers are far not enough.
- Several students live in Pingjiang city, and their parents are manual
workers. The situations of these students in urban families are even
worse than that in rural families, since the peasants have fields to
grow foodstuffs.
- On the other hand, nearly all the poor urban families have TVs. Thus, we
have to consider these poor urban students fairly.
